The organization behind the Oscars will impose diversity requirements on films competing for the best film prize from 2024, The Academy announced on Twitter on Wednesday. From 2024, films that want to win an Oscar for best film must meet at least two of four standards that the organization behind the film awards has drawn up regarding diversity in films. For example, at least one of the main or important supporting roles must have been played by someone "from an underrepresented ethnic group" or the subject of the film must revolve around people from that group. The production team of the films must consist of more women, LGBTI people and people with disabilities.
