On the eve of the 18th edition of IDFA DocLab, director Caspar Sonnen speaks enthusiastically about the event and its opening with Piotr Winiewicz's About A Hero, an AI-generated film inspired by Werner Herzog. DocLab continues to push the boundaries of VR and AI with several Dutch projects, including Drift, Future Botanica, Oryza: Healing Ground, and more. This year, DocLab introduces a new research area with the HVA on the phenomenon of "awe" in immersive art forms and launches the DocLab Playrooms for testing new technologies. Festival director Orwa Nyrabia announced his departure, to which Sonnen praised him for his support of DocLab.
