A report from the European Audiovisual Observatory has found that 88% of European TV and SVoD fiction adaptations are based on local works. The report, entitled "Adaptations in audiovisual fiction production in Europe – 2023 extras", analyses data from 2015 to 2023 and highlights that the majority of adaptations come from the UK, Germany, France and Spain. Books are the main source for these adaptations, with detective and crime novels being the most popular genres. The study also points to a greater reliance on adaptations by streaming services compared to broadcasters.
