Elise Schaap stars in The Machine, a six-part BNNVARA drama series airing on NPO Start in the spring of 2027, which follows the rise of Booking.com, from a Twente student startup to a global internet giant. Schaap portrays one of the CEOs who guides the company through its growing pains, while the series questions leadership and humanity within a growing organization. The screenplay was written by Daan Windhorst, Nasja Covers, and Michiel van Jaarsveld, who also directs. The series is based on the journalistic book by Stijn Bronzwaer, Joris Kooiman, and Merijn Rengers and is a co-production of BNNVARA and Hollands Licht Producties.
