Sound designer and composer Nicolas Becker, who previously won an Oscar for "Sound of Metal," worked on director Momoko Seto's "Dandelion's Odyssey (Planètes)," a wordless animated film about four dandelion fluffs who, after a nuclear holocaust, drift through space in search of a new planet. Because there's no dialogue, viewers experience the sound more physically, bypassing the intellect and engaging the brainstem directly. Becker held the fluffs still for as long as possible until he decided to capture their vulnerability by gently blowing into a microphone while tracking their movements, combining this with the sounds of the ondes Martenot. "Dandelion's Odyssey" will screen at the Kaboom Animation Festival 2026 and will be in theaters on April 30.
