Erasmusprijs 2026 voor Steve McQueen'
Steve McQueen is receiving the 2026 Erasmus Prize, a lifetime achievement award worth €150,000 awarded to individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to the arts or sciences. The British-Amsterdam director became the first Black filmmaker to win an Oscar for Best Picture in 2014 with *12 Years a Slave*, while a 34-hour version of his documentary *Occupied City* was projected onto the facade of the Rijksmuseum between September 2025 and January 2026. His new film installation *ATLAS* is currently on view at Museum De Pont in Tilburg, where the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation characterizes him as a maker who explores human vulnerability and historical repercussions without moral judgment.
