Tom Fassaert over Tussen broers'
In Tussen broers, Tom Fassaert follows his father Rob and uncle René on a journey south as they search for their unknown father and attempt to answer unanswered questions from their childhood. In doing so, Fassaert explores the complex caregiving relationship between the brothers, making visible the tension between involvement and suffocation. He considers his own presence as a filmmaker essential, as the relationship between himself and his subjects forms the core of his work. He views ethical dilemmas as his core business, such as when he stands weeping behind the camera during a fragile moment with his father.
