David Verbeek's latest film, *The Wolf, the Fox and the Leopard*, which had its Dutch premiere at IFFR, is an eco-apocalyptic fairy tale set partly on a decommissioned oil rig, in which Jessica Reynolds plays a feral child who transforms into a conditioned adult in consumer society. Verbeek deliberately undermines narrative conventions by starting the film with a false protagonist, because he wants to confront the viewer with the idea that humanity is not the center of the story. Reynolds prepared for her role through meditation, observation of a two-year-old child, and spending a week with wolves. The film opens in theaters on April 16, 2026.
