Emma Branderhorst has been selected for the 51st session of La Résidence du Festival de Cannes, a screenplay development program in which six international filmmakers will stay in Paris from March 16 to July 31, 2026, to develop their first or second feature film. Branderhorst, known for intimate, character-driven films that explore social dynamics from a female perspective, is working on her debut film, This Will Not End Well, during the residency. Her short films Under the Skin, Spotless, and My Mother and I were all selected for the Berlinale, with Spotless winning a Crystal Bear. Branderhorst describes writing as a solitary process and views the residency as an environment where vulnerability in the work is possible.
