Cannes 2026: Immersive Competition'
For the third edition of the Immersive Competition, Cannes is experimenting with large-scale presentations in a 30 by 15 meter space, where dozens to hundreds of visitors experience works simultaneously. However, the initiative is disappointing, as many entries make insufficient use of the space. The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters by Eloise Singer and the Italian Red Planet 3009 by Mariano Leotta and Francesco Fiore are unconvincing in terms of content, while the VR works Yellowfin and Lúcido exhibit technical or narrative shortcomings. Positive exceptions are Katábasis by Ugo Arsac, Playing with Fire by Pierre-Alain Giraud, and the South Korean Voooooo—Peeeeee— by Hyeunjoo Woo and Jiyun Park.
