During the Marché du Film in Cannes, Europa Distribution, AFAN, CAACI, and EFAD organized a first joint working session in which 16 independent distributors and 22 representatives of film agencies from Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, and Canada spoke for 90 minutes about the international distribution of films. The participants noted that financing structures vary significantly by country, with distribution remaining structurally underemphasized compared to production, while countries such as Norway and Switzerland were cited as successful models because they offer distributors direct and independent access to support mechanisms. Additionally, the participants emphasized that distribution strategy must be integrated early in the production process and that better communication between film agencies and distributors regarding existing arrangements is essential to deploy resources more effectively.
