During the two-day online Global Summit on Gender Equality in Cinema, organized by CIMA on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, participants analyzed structural inequality in the film industry. Fabienne Silvestre demonstrated that at the current pace, gender equality will not be achieved until 2066, noting that the share of female directors in Europe rose from 19.2% in 2015 to 24.6% in 2024. Zanele Mthembu highlighted the informal African film sector, where women make up less than 10% of the professionals, while Lyara Oliveira presented the Brazilian model, which demonstrably influences which projects are funded through diversity quotas in grant calls. The overarching conclusion was that progress made remains reversible without active protection policies.
