Downtown by Michiel van Erp opens the 46th edition of the Netherlands Film Festival on Friday, September 25, with the director attending the red carpet at the Stadsschouwburg in Utrecht alongside lead actors Yorick van Wageningen, Hans Kesting, Roeland Fernhout, Daniel Cornelissen, Sebastián Mrkvicka, and Thor Braun. The film follows three young friends immersing themselves in the Amsterdam nightlife scene until the AIDS crisis overshadows their lives, while a second timeline set during the 2021 lockdown showcases their renewed friendship. In addition to Utrecht, there are screenings in cinemas throughout the Netherlands, with tickets available from June 11.
