Several European professional organizations of filmmakers, including ARP, SRF, ARPI, 100 Autori, ANAC, the Writers Guild Italia, ARAS, APR, the Directors Guild of Cyprus, and the Estonian Association for Audiovisual Authors, have published an open letter calling on European institutions to adopt an ambitious cultural policy. The organizations demand that the Cultural Exception principle be upheld, that Agora EU be granted a budget exceeding the MEDIA programme and remaining exclusively earmarked for independent creation, that the definition of independence exclude capital ties with broadcasters or non-European shareholders, that the AVMSD be revised with stronger quotas, and that generative AI be urgently regulated to protect copyright.
