Merlijn Janssen Steenberg

n 1997, Captain Charles Moore and his crew discovered what is commonly referred to as “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch” in the North Pacific Ocean. In 1999, he began the first in a series of return pioneering expeditions to do comparative studies of plastic pollution in the accumulation zone of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. The most recent studies were in 2009 and 2014. Sailing the Ocean of Trash with Captain Charles Moore provides a unique first hand perspective on this ever increasing threat to all the world oceans.
