Since 1945, The Netherlands has provided military personnel for about fifty peace-keeping missions. Some 140,000 veterans are alive, some of them still serving, In the village of Veendam, located in the rural north-eastern part of The Netherlands, the UNIFIL veteran (Lebanon, 1979) Bert Nanninga wants to create a meeting place for veterans. Together with others, he restores a house using the motto “five minutes on, fifteen minutes off”. A replica of a UNIFIL checkpoint is built for the grand opening of De Molenhoeve. The lads each have their own war experiences. When the man is out of the war, the war is by no means out of the man.
