White Picket - A Nuclear Short Film

We are looking for two actors to fill the lead roles of Maeve and Adam for our upcoming film ‘White Picket’!

Story Setting:
Set in a post-apocalyptic 1960s, the story takes place in an ‘artificial’ underground bunker. We will be building a set that resembles a garden, but with fake walls, hand-drawn white clouds, and plastic plants and grass.

Information about the film:
Heavily inspired by Plato’s allegory of the cave, this film explores the tensions that arise when a conformist and a go-getter are stuck in a room together.

Maeve and Adam have lived their whole lives in the bunker. They follow absurd rules presented to them in an instruction manual without questioning the authority or reason for these regulations. Forced to believe that the world above them is no more, they spend their long days basking under the rays of the artificial sun.

One day, Maeve snaps and starts questioning the rules they follow - she clearly wants to exit the bunker and see what the world outside is like. Adam becomes frustrated: they have been told that the world as it was is no more, why can’t she accept it and be happy with what they have?

We are looking for two actors with strong memorisation and script analysis skills. Feel free to apply even if you don't fully fill one of the requirements - we can make some adjustments!

Lead Role - Maeve (20-30):
Maeve is the protagonist of the story. Originally portrayed as a quiet and happy young woman, the dynamics rapidly shift once her curiosity takes over; she becomes independent, confident, and unafraid of the world outside the bunker.

Required:
- Long Hair (think of the 60s aesthetic; we are planning on having her have hair curlers)
- Comfortable wearing a dress / short sleeves
- Willingness to paint own nails

Supporting Role - Adam (20-30):
Adam is the polar opposite of Maeve: he is lethargic, comformist and is happy where he is. He does not see the need to question ‘reality’, and does not see the need for a purpose in life - as long as he is well fed, and comfortable, he is happy.

Required:
- Relatively short hair
- Will be ‘tanning’ under the sun, so comfortable in bathing suit/shorts
- Able to command a room with his presence

Periode
Information about the shooting process:
This project has two filming days: 16th and 17th of July. We will be filming on location, in the set at SAE Institute, in Amsterdam Noord.

BACK-UP DATES: 23 and 24th of July

Wat bieden wij?
This is a student production, which means that our budget is unfortunately limited. Meals/snacks will be provided on set, and travel costs can eventually be covered (within a reasonable amount).

Our international crew offers a good chance to network, and to potentially find other future projects :)
