Casting Call – Japanese Short Film 'Tomodachi' (Non-Profit)

A small coming-of-age drama about friendship and cultural connection. Kenta, a 10-year-old Japanese boy, discovers a new world in the Netherlands and forms a special friendship under blooming cherry trees. The film also aims to show viewers how people in the Netherlands engage with and respect Japanese culture, highlighting curiosity, understanding, and cross-cultural connection.



Synopsis:
Kenta, a ten-year-old Japanese boy, feels lonely after moving to the Netherlands. Everything is new and unfamiliar, until one spring day he meets Sophie beneath blooming cherry trees. Their quiet friendship grows as Kenta shares parts of his Japanese culture and discovers that connection is possible, even far from home.

Looking for:

Kenta (10 years old): Japanese, speaks Japanese & Dutch (basic level okay), interest in baseball is a plus.

Father (30–40 years old): Japanese, speaks Japanese, some Dutch is a plus.

Mother (30–40 years old): Japanese, speaks Japanese, some Dutch is a plus.

Periode
Filming period: March (exact dates to be discussed) – during cherry blossom season
Location: Almere, Regenboogbuurt.
