This short film explores the pressure of growing up and the belief that success will eventually silence fear. Through a symbolic encounter between a young woman and her older self, the story questions whether freedom comes from achievement — or from accepting uncertainty and learning to live and enjoy life in the process.

The film takes place in a natural river setting that will be created using Virtual Production (LED volume with Unreal Engine environments). A practical boat and physical set elements will be combined with immersive digital backgrounds to create a grounded yet poetic atmosphere.

The tone is intimate, reflective, and emotional. The story relies heavily on subtle performance, body language, and internal emotion rather than dramatic action.

We are looking for two actresses who plausibly resemble each other, as they portray the same woman at different stages of her life. A real-life mother/daughter pair is very welcome, but this is not a requirement. It is absolutely possible to apply individually for one role.

YOUNGER SELF (LEAD)
Gender: Female
Playing age: 19–25
Language: English

Character description:
A young woman at a turning point in her life. Intelligent, sensitive, and emotionally intense. She carries visible tension — tight shoulders, restless energy. She is ambitious and thoughtful, but deeply consumed by the pressure to “get life right.”

She believes success and certainty will finally make her feel free. Beneath her determination lies fear — fear of making the wrong choices, of failing, of not being enough. She is searching for reassurance and proof that everything will be okay.

What we are looking for:
An actress with strong non-verbal acting skills who can portray internal anxiety subtly and truthfully. The performance should feel natural and emotionally authentic, without melodrama. The role requires comfort with minimal dialogue and the ability to shift between tension, defensiveness and vulnerability within a short scene.

Physical notes:
Natural appearance, no glamorous styling. Comfortable in an outdoor-inspired setting. Should plausibly resemble the Older Self.

OLDER SELF (SUPPORTING ROLE)
Gender: Female
Playing age: 40–60
Language: English

Character description:
The future version of the Younger Self. Calm, grounded, and emotionally aware. She carries the quiet weight of lived experience. Where her younger self is tense and searching, she is composed and accepting.

She understands that certainty is an illusion and that freedom comes from embracing uncertainty rather than conquering it. Her presence is warm, steady and deeply human.

What we are looking for:
An actress with a subtle, restrained acting style who is comfortable holding silence and stillness. The performance should communicate depth with minimal dialogue and feel grounded and natural.

Physical notes:
Natural appearance. Should plausibly resemble the Younger Self.

Periode
There will be one test/rehearsal day on March 17 (full day) and one shooting day on March 24 (full day). Both days require full availability.

The opportunity to work with Virtual Production in a professional LED volume studio at Breda University of Applied Sciences. Instead of performing in front of a green screen, you will act within a live digital environment displayed on LED walls, creating a more immersive and responsive setting.

The project combines practical set elements with Unreal Engine 3D environments, resulting in high-quality cinematic footage suitable for showreel use.
