Hello!
My name is Dax Heesters, a fourth-year Film and Photography student at St. Joost School of Art & Design. For my graduation project, I'm creating a dramatically charged short fiction film that raises several ethical questions.

STAMPPOT is a story about grief, family, and forgiveness. The topics of euthanasia and death play a major role.

STORY
ROOS (21) is going through a difficult time when her mother passes away. After the funeral, she dines with her father, Willem (56). Father and daughter grieve differently, causing a rift in their relationship. During dinner, this rift ruptures. BLAME, REGRET, and their POWER RELATIONSHIP come to the forefront, resulting in a CONFRONTATION. Willem confesses that he has put his wife out of her "suffering." Roos now faces an impossible choice: can she FORGIVE her father?

Willem:
Willem puts his wife out of her misery. This resembles euthanasia, but is legally murder. Because of this, Willem harbors a deep sense of guilt. To be able to continue looking at himself in the mirror, Willem seeks solace in faith. He becomes a staunch Christian, but this mask he wears results in disbelief, friction, and irritation with his daughter Roos. At a time when they need each other most, the rift between father and daughter is wider than ever. Willem seeks to connect with his daughter but simultaneously refuses to let his mask break.

Rose:
Roos is deeply affected by her mother's death. While she was already in a complicated and intimidating phase of her life, being young, it now becomes even more difficult. This makes her very insecure and vulnerable. Her father's sudden return to faith is painful for Roos; so much is already changing in her life, and she can't handle this. Roos distances herself from her father. They mourn the same person, but alone. During dinner, father and daughter confront each other. Willem's mask falls, and the power dynamics in their relationship shift. Where Willem once held all the reins, this is now Roos. She sees the real Willem. Now she faces a choice: Can she forgive her father? We don't see Roos's decision in the film.
