Composer gezocht - afstudeerfilm het snoepontbijt

Hi! I am Nuéva Hermans, and for my graduation film Het Snoepontbijt, I am looking for a composer who wants to create a playful, cinematic, and emotional score with me.

About the film:
Sophie brings her family back together after years for their old tradition: the candy breakfast. What starts as a warm reunion quickly takes a turn when underlying tensions surface.

In an imaginative, abstract world, Sophie sees her family as candies. Through that imagination, she tries to understand their dynamics, and herself. Sophie is a playwright, but has traded her passion for an office job. During breakfast, she wants to mention that she is quitting to start writing again.

In the end, it turns out that the abstract world is its own artistic vision: the play "The Candy Breakfast". The film has a distinctly theatrical style, with playful costumes and a set that feels like a stage.

At the beginning and during the final edit, I think of lovely, light music—perhaps it’s a somewhat strange example, but a bit like *Heel Holland Bakt*. Every episode there starts with a montage of the preparation of all the pastries: light, playful, and full of anticipation. It has something warm and almost fairytale-like about it, and immediately evokes a sense of coziness.

That is exactly how Sophie feels at the beginning. That is how I want to portray her as well. That is precisely why it seems interesting to me to let that same musical theme slowly shift. When tension rises at the table, that friendly music can become alienating; less warm, slightly sharper, perhaps just off balance. As if the safe, nostalgic feeling is developing cracks. At the end, I want to return to that theme, but in a more mature version: recognizable, only with more depth and darker tones. In this way, the music grows along with Sophie, as it were.


In terms of atmosphere, think a bit of Frances Ha, Fantastic Mr. Fox, or The Grand Budapest Hotel.
