In this absurd satire, a young dreamer refuses to play along any longer with the beat of a rigid recorder lesson.

'Out of Tune' is a short film by director Sem Beex. Out of Tune is about children growing up with a brain that works differently: not
worse, not weaker, but different. It is often these children who are the first to clash and get stuck in a school system designed for performance, efficiency, and uniformity. While school is intended as a place to learn, for them it quickly becomes an environment where
Sitting still and staying within the lines are considered more important than curiosity or expression. Impulses and creativity are interpreted as disturbances that need to be corrected. *Uit de maat* argues that what is labeled as “too dreamy,” “too busy,” and “too much” are not deviations, but indications of a unique source of strength and imagination. For me, this is not a distant theme. I have ADHD, and for a long time, school felt like a place where I primarily learned that I was doing things wrong. Before I knew where my struggles stemmed from, misunderstanding and self-hatred grew alongside them: why did “simple” things cost me so much energy, why did the approach that was self-evident to others seem impossible to me time and again?

Out of Tune is my attempt to overhaul that system. To celebrate individuality. To show how beautiful it is to let yourself go in an environment that doesn't always allow it. I believe that by watching my film, everyone can rediscover a forgotten part of themselves and ask themselves, “Why did I actually put out that fire?”

For the lead role in our short film 'Out of Tune', we are looking for Milo. Milo is a boy of about 8 years old. A child with a mind of his own, a lively gaze, a rich inner world, and something clumsy and mischievous about him. A Pippi Longstocking. He is dreamy, impulsive, imaginative, and sensitive, someone who does not fit within the rigid order.
of the school system. For this role, we are looking for a boy who is not afraid to be physical. Dance experience is not a must, but we are looking for someone with a sense of rhythm, musicality, and dedication. A showman who dares to let go in front of a group or camera crew. Milo carries the film, so we are primarily looking for a child with a unique energy of his own, lots of facial and body expression, and the courage to be weird, funny, vulnerable, and free.

Periode
We draaien verspreid over drie draaidagen: 24 + 25 juni & 8 juli, allemaal in de omgeving Eindhoven.

Wat bieden wij?
Aangezien het om een studentenproductie gaat bieden wij de acteurs alleen reiskostenvergoeding. Daarnaast is er wel een goede catering op set aanwezig en natuurlijk een hele leuke en gezellige sfeer!
