We are currently seeking a cinematographer and a gaffer for a short artistic film. The project is in the editing and development phase and combines dance, architecture, archival footage, and poetic storytelling. The film explores themes such as love, loss, memory, war, home, and belonging within the refugee and East African context. The visual style is slow, cinematic, and strongly focused on light, composition, and atmosphere. Two more shooting days are scheduled on location in the Netherlands.

Project Description

For an artistic short film, we are currently looking for a Cinematographer and a Gaffer.

The film combines dance, architecture, archival imagery, and poetic storytelling. It explores themes of love, loss, memory, war, home, and belonging through an East African lens. The visual style is slow, cinematic, and atmospheric, with a strong emphasis on light, composition, movement, and emotion.

The project is currently in development and post-production, with two additional shoot days planned on location in the Netherlands.

Omschrijving
We are looking for a cinematographer with a feel for artistic cinema, image composition, lighting, and atmosphere. Experience with short films, dance films, experimental films, or video art is a plus.

Additionally, we are looking for a gaffer who can independently contribute ideas regarding lighting setups and the creation of a poetic, cinematic visual language. We work with a small, dedicated crew, so flexibility and collaboration are important.

Cinematographer

Experience with short films, dance films, video art, or artistic documentaries.

Strong understanding of composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.

Affinity with slow, poetic, and visually driven cinema.

Ability to collaborate closely with the director on visual language and shot design.

Portfolio or showreel required.


Gaffer

Experience with film lighting and working on film sets.

Ability to think independently about lighting setups and atmosphere.

Experience with artistic or cinematic projects is a plus.

Portfolio or examples of previous work preferred.

Periode
Draaidagen vinden plaats in overleg gedurende de komende maanden (zomer/najaar 2026). Exacte data worden gezamenlijk afgestemd op beschikbaarheid van cast, crew en locaties.

Responsibilities

Cinematographer

Prepare and shoot two filming days.

Collaborate on visual language and shot planning.

Work with both natural and controlled lighting.

Collaborate closely with the director and gaffer.


Gaffer

Design and execute lighting setups.

Assist in creating the visual atmosphere of the film.

Support the cinematographer during production.

Work within a small and collaborative film crew.
