Igor Iofe is a composer whose musical paths lead to various stylistic destinations. Currently Igor's focus in music is Armenian traditional duduk repertoire which he performs on trumpet. He brings the beauty and warmth of the duduk into his trumpet playing.
Igor studied composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Wim Hendricks and Richard Ayres, but his paths also crossed those of Tristan Murail, Fabio Nieder, Tan Dun, Dmitry Kourliandski, Willem Jeths, Jorrit Tamminga & Misato Mochizuki. He studied film music with Jurre Haanstra.
Igor's musical journey began at a young age in the Uzbek capital Tashkent, his hometown, where he entered the composition division of the conservatory through piano, trumpet, violin and singing lessons, after winning various prizes, including the Republican Young Musician's Award.
He received his first composition lessons from Artur Dobrynin, followed by Felix Yanov-Yanovsky. The first performances of his work took place through the Uzbek Composers Union and the Omnibus Ensemble.
In the meantime he continued his work as a baritone and ensemble leader.
His broad interests brought Igor to the Atlas Ensemble, Looptail and the Netherlands Film and Television Academy, among others. A large number of performances followed, including by the Nieuw Ensemble in the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ.
Igor continues to push boundaries, always tries to place a high musical standard in a relevant context, so that music fulfills the role it needs, a role that redefines itself with each new work.
